Advice from another awesome Y2 board member!

This is some advice from Matt, our Outdoor Experiences Coordinator! He is very enthusiastic about sharing his tips on what he does to maintain healthy habits and would love for you to try them out too!

Socially distancing in the outdoors while still staying sane

During these unprecedented times of uncertainty, being outdoors can still give us a space escape and give us a bit of “normal” to our lives. But with that, there comes being responsible by following practices to keep ourselves healthy not only physically, but also mentally and making sure we are doing our part in distancing from others.

Here are some ideas to enjoy nature while following guidelines:

Your backyard!

One of the most underestimated places to spend time during this is our backyard. For me, I hadn’t actually spent a whole lot of time in my backyard since I was a child and I gotta say, there is so much to discover! Even if it is spending just a few minutes back there to breathe, stretch, eat breakfast, or whatever it may be, it can make a difference.

Local public lands

As we have noticed, there is a HUGE influx of people spending time outdoors, but with that, it is important to check your local public lands’ website to make sure they are open still! And avoid the crowds! Now is a better time than ever to find solitude and focus on ourselves and doing that in our public lands is the perfect place, as long as you’re doing it responsibly of course!

And don’t forget to breathe and find the light in the darkness of everything going on. However that may look for you!

Enthusiastically,

Matt Coghill
